Eliakim (Kadosh: אליקים, Beidar: الياقيم) is the capital and the largest city in Eilat, with a population of 1,678,300. It is located on a plateau inland from the ___ Sea, in southern Eilat, forming a large part of the National Capital Area. Eliakim is home to all foreign embassies, with the exception of Abbasid, which has its embassy located in Yafo.
Eliakim was seized by Eilat from Abbasid in 1956, sparking the First Eilai-Abbasidi conflict. Government buildings were moved to Eliakim from Yafo following the end of the war, and the city underwent significant growth in the years after it's capture. A second war between Abbasid and Eilat resulted in the 1983 Abbasidi-Eilai Peace Treaty, in which Abbasid relinquished its claims to Eliakim, and recognizing it as Eilat's capital. The city is home to several important sites, including the Supreme Court of Eilat, the Kadosh University, the legislature (Misrah), and the Museum of Eilat.
