Miyagi Prefecture (宮城県 Miyagi Ken ) is a prefecture of Okaiken located northwest of the capital, Okami. Its population as of 2015 was 2,358,911. It is the 15th largest prefecture with an area of 7,285.16 square kilometres. Its capital city is Shinagawa. Miyagi prefecture is known for its hot, humid climate during the summer, making it one of the most popular beach locations in the country. It is also known for its exports in alcohol, rice and the so-called Miyagi-buta, a top quality pork export from the prefecture.
